Carnival unveils 2028 farewell voyages from Australia for two ships

Two ships leave Australia in March 2028

Carnival Cruise Line announced farewell voyages for Carnival Adventure and Carnival Luminosa on October 27, 2026. Both ships are scheduled to leave Australia in March 2028. Carnival describes the trips as repositioning cruises: The voyages connect the ships’ final deployments from Australia with subsequent itineraries in other cruising regions.

For guests, the ships and their endpoints are key. Carnival Adventure will initially depart from Sydney and continue in several stages: first to Tokyo, then on a round-trip voyage from Tokyo, and finally to Seattle. Carnival Luminosa will sail from Sydney to Los Angeles. The different departure and destination ports allow guests to book individual legs of the repositioning.

Carnival Adventure sails via Tokyo to Seattle

The first announced Carnival Adventure voyage departs Sydney on March 20, 2028, for a 19-day trip to Tokyo. Carnival lists Papua New Guinea, Hong Kong, Taipei and other destinations in Taiwan, as well as Japan, as ports of call. The ship is then scheduled to embark on an eight-day round trip from Tokyo, beginning April 8. Carnival highlights Busan in South Korea and Mount Fuji.

Another 15-day voyage from Tokyo to Seattle is scheduled for April 16. For guests, this sequence makes the planned change of cruising region clear: The route from Australia to Japan is followed by a round trip around Japan, then a transpacific voyage to North America. The first leg ends in Tokyo and the last in Seattle.

Carnival Luminosa sails from Sydney to Los Angeles

Carnival Luminosa is scheduled to depart on March 15, 2028, for a 23-day voyage from Sydney to Los Angeles. Carnival lists Hawaii and French Polynesia as destinations. The route crosses the Pacific to the U.S. West Coast. The voyage is planned as a longer repositioning and differs considerably in length and destination from the three consecutive Carnival Adventure itineraries announced.

In its October 27 announcement, Carnival said the farewell voyages would go on sale later that same week. A separate announcement on October 28, by contrast, concerns the 2028/29 Australia program and should be distinguished from it.

New Australia program features Splendor and Encounter

On October 28, Carnival unveiled a separate program for the 2028/29 season, featuring 112 additional voyages. Carnival Splendor is scheduled to sail year-round from Sydney, and Carnival Encounter year-round from Brisbane. Carnival lists the South Pacific, Far North Queensland, New Zealand and Tasmania as cruising regions. The company announced that bookings for this separate program would open on October 28.

For travelers to Australia, the later departures aboard Splendor and Encounter will therefore be available alongside the repositioning voyages in March 2028. When planning a trip, guests can distinguish the longer routes involving a one-time change of cruising region from the year-round departures from Sydney and Brisbane.
