SHIP OVERVIEW
Discover Johannes Brahms
Construction and naming history
The Johannes Brahms sails under ENI number 04033510. Scheepswerf Peters in Kampen built the vessel in 1998 as hull number 461 for Hapag-Lloyd River Cruises. It was christened Eurostar in Dresden in June of that year. In 2003, it sailed as Eurodiamond for Viking River Cruises, and from 2006 it sailed under the name Johannes Brahms with Austrian River Cruises, followed by the Dutch Cruise Line from 2015. Today, its registered home port is Maasbracht in the Netherlands. The vessel belongs to the group of river ships.
Cabins, dimensions and onboard spaces
The Johannes Brahms is 81.95 metres long and 9.50 metres wide. Its 40 outside cabins are spread across two passenger decks and provide a total of 80 berths. Each cabin measures around eleven square metres and is equipped with a shower and toilet, hairdryer, safe, telephone, flat-screen TV, minibar and individually adjustable air conditioning. The beds are fixed; according to the operator, there are no fold-down beds. The vessel was refurbished in winter 2024/25.
The operator lists the lounge bar with dance floor and the sun deck with deckchairs as guest areas. A stairlift connects the passenger decks. Other technical specifications include a draught of 1.10 metres, a 230-volt power supply and a crew of 21. The vessel sails under the Dutch flag. The cabin windows cannot be opened because they are located close to the waterline.
On board, there is a restaurant serving European cuisine and local specialities. A breakfast buffet is served in the morning; at lunch and dinner, guests can choose from several courses. In the afternoon, the team serves coffee or tea with pastries in the lounge. Its compact design allows the vessel to navigate narrow waterways and dock in city centres.
A historic Baltic Sea voyage
On 23 May 2011, the vessel entered Kaliningrad. From Gdańsk, the route led via the Motława and the Dead Vistula to the Vistula Lagoon; it then continued via Elbląg and Tolkmicko to Kaliningrad. Protected time windows and suitable weather conditions were important for this passage. The voyage was an exceptional historic transfer, not a regular sea-cruise route.
