Built in 2003, MS Midnatsol is part of Hurtigruten’s Signature fleet. The ship is 135.75 metres long, 21.5 metres wide and measures 16,151 gross tonnage. Midnatsol was built at Fosen Mek. Verk. in Norway and entered service in 2003. From 2021 to 2024, the same ship sailed under the name Maud; in November 2024, it was renamed Midnatsol. Both itineraries combine extended stays in port with stretches at sea; on the Svalbard Line, the route runs from the Norwegian coast to the Arctic archipelago. Life on board

The languages spoken on board depend on the route: German is the main language on the North Cape Line from Hamburg, while German, English and Norwegian are used on the Svalbard Line. The currency on board also varies by itinerary: the Norwegian krone is used on the Svalbard Line, while the euro is used on the North Cape Line from Hamburg. The Expedition Team complements shore visits with talks and guided activities.
