Bermuda: tribute to John Lennon


This season Bermuda will recall John Lennon. In 1980 the legendary "Beatle" visited the famous island, where he was able to find the lost inspiration. Perhaps, holidays on Bermuda encouraged creative activity of Lennon, who broke the five-year silence and released his last album "Double Fantasy". Lennon gave the name to the album in honor of the flower in the Bermuda Botanical Gardens.

A special event to commemorate the visit of John Lennon will be held on June 21, 2012 at the Bermuda Museum of Art. The event was named Double Fantasy Bermuda Tribute.

His experience of visiting Bermuda Lennon described as a sudden enlightenment after five years of darkness. Released in November 1980 the album became the last musician's creation, which won the first position in the world charts. A month after the release Lennon was killed.

In memory of Lennon on Bermuda have been prepared a series of festive events including art exhibitions, book presentation and, of course, concerts in honor of the musician with performing the «Imagine» song, which changed the world.
One of the central events of the Double Fantasy Bermuda Tribute promises to be opening of the John Lennon’ sculpture in front of the Fine Arts Museum of Bermuda. The sculpture was created by a local surrealist artist Graham Foster.

At the Rick Faries Gallery will be held John Lennon traveling art exhibit, where all visitors will be able to get acquainted with unique items associated with Lennon’s visit to Bermuda.

At the Botanical Garden of the island tourists can visit a specially created maze of Double Fantasy plants and can see the famous sort of freesia, which name was placed in the title of the album.

The final chord of the program dedicated to John Lennon, will be a concert, where a number of musicians will perform Lennon’s songs. In the concert will take part Paul Carrak (Mike and The Mechanics), founder of the first rock band on Bermuda Paul Muggleton and Judie Tzuke. A CD with covers of the most famous Lennon’s songs will also be presented at the concert.

Among the cruise ships, which this season will visit Bermuda are Veendam from Holland America Line, Silver Spirit from Silversea, Azamara Journey and Caribbean Princess.
