The Main River Cruise - where it takes place and when to go

The Main is a tributary of the Rhine and flows through the states of Hesse and Bavaria. The White Main rises in the Fichtel mountains, the Red Main in the Franconian Jura. After about 524 kilometres it flows into the Rhine at Mainz. The months of May to September are particularly good for a Main River Cruise.

Main River Cruises - cities and tourist attractions

No Main River Cruise would be complete without a visit to the pulsating metropolis of Frankfurt am Main. Here it is that you will find the famous skyline with state-of-the-art architectural gems such as the Maintower. Frankfurt also has a host of historic monuments to offer. In the picturesque old town with its Rƶmer you will find the imperial Cathedral of St. Bartholomew and the church of St. Paul. The Sachsenhausen district has a lot of nice little corners.

Aschaffenburg is known as the Gateway to the Spessart. The defining landmark of the city is the imposing Renaissance Johannisburg Castle. The State Museum will acquaint you with the history of the Celts, the Romans and the Germanic peoples.

Carrying on upriver past natural landscapes with their host of impressions, your Main River Cruise will then bring you to the idyllic city of WĆ¼rzburg. The famous WĆ¼rzburg Residenz, declared a World Cultural Heritage site by UNESCO in 1981, is recommended as a highlight. The Marienburg fortress also lends the city an attractiveness all of its own.

The best preserved historic city centre is to be found in Bamberg. Take a stroll through the quaint little alleyways or admire some of the approximately 1200 historic monuments, such as the former Dominican monastery. Bamberg also has a long tradition of beer brewing.
