Kristiansand cruise port: Pier 10, city and Odderøya

Piers 10 and 21, the Kvadraturen centre, Posebyen and the former naval base of Odderøya.

Cruise port and berths

Kristiansand is a cruise port on the Skagerrak in southern Norway. The port serves cruise ships, fishing vessels and yachts. Pier 10 at Lagmansholmen opened in 2017 and is the preferred cruise pier. The cruise terminal is located at Lagmansholmen. Pier 21 at Agderkaien is also used by cruise ships; the ferry terminal is a separate facility.

Color Line connects Kristiansand with Hirtshals in Denmark.

Getting around the city

Kristiansand was founded by Christian IV in 1641. The Kvadraturen centre retains a regular Renaissance street plan and extends for about one kilometre in each direction. In the older Posebyen district, rows of white wooden houses stand side by side. A walk around the city can link the old town with the areas around the eastern harbour.

By the fish market and eastern harbour, Otterdalsparken features granite fountains by sculptor Kjell Nupen. Nearby are the guest harbour and Christiansholm Fortress, built in 1672. Bystranda is the central city beach.

Odderøya and the harbour landscape

South of the centre lies Odderøya, a former naval base that is now used as a recreation area. Marked trails cross the rocky terrain; the circular route is about three kilometres long. Gun emplacements, rampart remains and historic buildings recall its military use. In the 1830s, the island also served as a quarantine harbour. The trails offer views of the eastern harbour, the city and the recreational yacht harbours.

Airport and bus connections

Kjevik Airport is located northeast of the city. Local bus routes 35 and 36 connect Kjevik with Kristiansand. Kristiansand bus station is one of the main transfer points. Route 35 continues to Tveit, while route 36 connects Birkeland and serves Kjevik on selected journeys. Route 100 connects Kristiansand with Lillesand, Grimstad and Arendal; to travel to Kjevik, it can be combined with local routes 35/36. At the airport, buses stop at platform B outside the domestic terminal. Other transfer points between routes 100 and 35/36 are Vige, Vollevannet and Universitetet. Travel between Kjevik and Kristiansand falls within a single fare zone in the Agder public transport authority’s standard ticketing system.
