Based in Innsbruck, Lüftner Cruises GmbH is behind the AMADEUS river cruise brand. The family-run company combines European river routes with regional cuisine and excursion programs.
Lüftner Cruises GmbH, based in Innsbruck, markets river cruises under the AMADEUS brand. The family-run company focuses its offerings on European rivers and waterways.
Lüftner Cruises GmbH is listed in Austria’s register of tour operators. In its travel terms and conditions, it also describes itself as the carrier for the programs it offers. Lüftner Cruises GmbH is the company name, while AMADEUS is the river cruise brand. For a distinction between the shipping company, operator and brand, see Shipping Company, Operator and Brand.
The Lüftner family describes its history as more than four decades of river cruising on European waterways. In 1997, the m/s AMADEUS was christened, marking the beginning of the fleet named after the brand. In 2013, the company introduced the Silver series: suites with walk-out balconies and cabins with drop-down panoramic windows expanded the onboard accommodation options. Numerous new ships followed from 2017 onward; some were equipped with hybrid propulsion.
The company has announced AMADEUS Mira as the next addition to the fleet in 2027. Planned features include hybrid technology, heat recovery, solar panels and modern energy systems.
Today’s program includes river cruises on the Danube, Rhine, Main, Moselle and Saar, as well as the Rhône, Saône and Seine. Dutch and Belgian waterways are also included. The routes span a range of European regions, with different AMADEUS ships used depending on the cruising area and itinerary. The program also features winter and themed cruises, as well as pre- and post-cruise extensions as separate offering categories.
The fleet includes ships such as AMADEUS Nova and AMADEUS Queen.
For onboard dining, AMADEUS highlights regionally inspired dishes and carefully selected wines. Excursion programs complement the cruises with a range of ways to discover destinations and their cultural highlights on shore. Included services include meals, selected wines with dinner, and complimentary use of bicycles and e-bikes.
Depending on the category, cabins and suites offer walk-out balconies or drop-down panoramic windows for views of the passing river scenery. Excursions, regional cuisine and space to take in the riverside landscape connect life on board with the places along the journey.
