Hobart as a port of call and turnaround port
Hobart serves both as a port of call on ocean routes and as a seasonal departure point for trips to Tasmania. The port is in Australia’s southern coastal region. TasPorts describes the Coral Discoverer as an expedition ship based in Hobart during the Tasmanian season, from late December to March.
Macquarie Wharf and the cruise terminal
Macquarie Wharf No. 2/3 is the primary cruise berth; other ships may berth at the adjacent multipurpose wharf, Macquarie Wharf No. 4/5. The Macquarie Wharf No. 2 Cruise Terminal is on Hunter Street. TasPorts lists visitor information, toilets, free Wi-Fi for passengers and crew, and a market selling locally made goods among the facilities there. A taxi rank is located directly outside the terminal forecourt. According to the port information, tour coaches are available at the ship for shore excursions; additional visitor services at the terminal are a short walk from the berths.
The berth assignment matters for pickups: 2/3 and 4/5 are different wharves, and a taxi rank at the terminal does not mean every ship is berthed right outside it. For a private pickup, coordinate the meeting point with the tour operator and check the ship’s information for that day.
Arriving for Coral Expeditions voyages
On a changeover day for Coral Expeditions voyages, arriving guests disembark first; new passengers begin their voyage later. For embarkation, follow the terminal and baggage times provided by the operator. TasPorts identifies the public terminal entrance as the central handover point for arriving passengers and crew. The berth for each specific date is listed in the current port schedule.
Shore access along the waterfront
On cruise ship days, Franklin Wharf is closed to through traffic between Hunter Street and Constitution Dock Bridge. Authorised service vehicles are granted controlled access. This affects access along the waterfront and may affect pickups or trips to the ship; the taxi rank outside the terminal remains the pickup point designated by TasPorts. When returning to the ship, use the agreed access point for the specific wharf.

Richmond & Wildlife
An excursion into the areas around Hobart. The tour begins with a drive over the Brown Bridge to Risdon Cove. Then it's on to the historic residential estate of Richmond, with visits to the church and the old town. The next stop is the Bonorong Wildlife Park.
Tasmanian culture
An excursion to Tasmania's most beautiful wine-growing region. Wine and cheese tasting is included. The local tour guide will provide expert information. There will be musical accompaniment to the tasting in the form of a live band. Then the trip continues to historic Richmond with Australia's oldest bridge, the Richmond Bridge. A visit to the Town Hall. The tour concludes with a short coach tour of Hobart.
Highlights of Hobart
Coach tour of Hobart. The excursion's first port of call is the historic warehouse complex at Salamanca Place, where numerous shops and restaurants are to be found. Then it's onward to Battery Point, the Cascade Brewery, which dates back to 1824, and Mount Wellington with panoramic views of the whole island. There then follows a visit to the Royal Botanical Gardens.
