Embarkation: Documents and Schedule
The requirements of the relevant cruise line determine what you need for check-in. AIDA specifies a fully completed passenger manifest, a ticket and an identity document; Princess Cruises also describes an app-based process involving the Green Lane and Blue Lane at the terminal. Preparing therefore involves both documents and digital information, which can be completed before the day of travel.
Documents to prepare before the day of travel
For AIDA, a fully completed passenger manifest is required for a quick check-in. The company also says to have your AIDA ticket and national ID card or passport ready. Which documents are sufficient for entry at the ports on a particular itinerary is a separate matter and depends on your nationality and the destination country.
Princess asks guests to add personal details and travel documents, payment information, the passage contract, security and profile photos, and emergency contact information in the app in advance. Guests who complete these steps gain access to the Green Lane at the terminal. The steps specified by Princess also include ordering and personalizing the Medallion. According to Princess, shipping is limited to addresses in the United States and Puerto Rico.
Check-in and boarding at the terminal
In AIDA’s process, a security check takes place before boarding the ship. At Princess, the Blue Lane is for completing any remaining app steps: Navigators help guests finish entering their information at the terminal and issue the Medallion. Guests who were not sent a Medallion can collect one at the terminal. During turnaround, with passengers embarking and disembarking, routes pass through the terminal; the transfer of luggage from the terminal to the cabinis another stage of embarkation.
The stated check-in time and the latest time to be on board are different. For arrival, departure and all-aboard times, follow the times shown on the ticket and in the provider’s current information for the specific sailing.
Priority check-in options at AIDA
AIDA describes a Fast Lane for guests in suites and junior suites, members of the Kiss and Smile club tiers, and guests who need individual assistance, including wheelchair users. Families with babies or young children can also use priority check-in; during school holidays, AIDA additionally offers a dedicated family check-in.
