Routes and ships
Trogir is more than a brief photo stop on an Adriatic cruise: its old town lies right on the waterfront and can also serve as the starting and ending point of an island itinerary. One specific example is the eight-day cruise from Trogir to Dubrovnik aboard the M/S My Way, which takes place in the Eastern Mediterranean. The itinerary begins in Trogir and continues via Split, Brač, Vis, Hvar, Korčula, Mljet and Slano to Dubrovnik. On board, the journey continues alongside visits to coastal towns; the cruise ends in Dubrovnik. The M/S My Way is specifically named for this Trogir–Dubrovnik itinerary. Plan according to your booked route and the port of call listed in your travel documents.
Round trips from Trogir also show how close the islands and Dalmatian towns are to one another: an eight-day cruise departing from and returning to Trogir includes, among other places, Krka, Šibenik, Zadar, Kornati, Primošten, Hvar and Split. These routes connect coastal towns and islands; a stopover does not automatically mean an overnight stay.
Port and getting there
For a short visit, a straightforward walking tour of the old town is a good choice. For the Trogir–Dubrovnik cruise, the operator schedules an orientation walk on the first day. Check how much time you have against the day’s onboard program.
A shore visit to the old town
Trogir’s old town is situated on a small island between the mainland and Čiovo. The two bridges provide natural landmarks: from the Riva waterfront, walk through narrow lanes to the central square, with the Cathedral of St. Lawrence, the loggia and the town hall. From there, you can continue to the western tip, where Kamerlengo Fortress stands, then return along the southern shore. The historic center is compact; choose just a few stops and leave time to enjoy the squares and waterfront promenade.
The cathedral is especially well known for the Romanesque portal by Master Radovan. If you’d like to enjoy views over the rooftops and water, you can combine your visit with a trip up the bell tower; check opening hours and admission locally on the day of your visit. Kamerlengo Fortress adds the city’s fortified waterfront to your walk. Trogir is not an open-air museum devoid of everyday life: people still live in its old houses. Please be considerate in residential streets and stay on public routes.
Planning your shore visit
For a short visit, a walk through the old town is the best option: it takes in the Riva, the cathedral square and the fortress without requiring a long transfer. Only plan an additional trip to Split or a national park if you have enough time in port and have coordinated your return with the ship. You won’t need a rental car for this compact city walk.
