Boppard on the Rhine: Landing points, Old Town and travel
Boppard on the Rhine: Rheinallee, hotel ship landing points and KD landing stage 7, as well as the Marktplatz, main railway station and bus station for travel to the town.
Rhine promenade and changing ship landing points
Boppard lies on the left bank of the Rhine, where the river forms a broad bend. The town lists its landing points as regular stops for hotel ships and publishes arrival times for them. You should therefore not assume that every trip uses the same quay: the specific stop depends on the ship and the date. KD landing stage 7 is also located on the Rheinallee. It identifies this operator’s landing point on the riverbank; the town’s hotel ship landing points should be considered separate stops.
Old Town and fixed landmarks
From the river, the route leads to the Old Town around the Marktplatz. The regional Tourist Information office is located in the Old Town Hall, making the square a clearly identified landmark in the historic centre. The Marktplatz lies southeast of the landing point on the Rheinallee. Steiger 8 is located on Karmeliterstraße. The town describes the walk from there to Bürgermeister-Syree-Platz as short.
Roman fort in the town centre
In today’s town centre, remnants of walls recall the late Roman fort, which was developed under Emperor Julian in the 4th century as a trading post and military stronghold. The fortifications formed a rectangle measuring 308 by 154 metres and had 28 semicircular towers. In the centre, sections of the wall still reach heights of up to nine metres. Settlement traces in the Mühlbachtal date back to the 1st century. The location on the Middle Rhine enabled goods to be transferred between land and water transport.
Distinguishing the railway station from the bus station
The main railway station is at Heerstraße 193, west to southwest of the Marktplatz and Rheinallee. The central bus station is at Bürgermeister-Syree-Platz, immediately north to northeast of the railway station. The bus parking area at Remigiusplatz is a separate location, as is the bus area at the KD boarding point; neither should be confused with the central bus station.
Regional travel
Frankfurt-Hahn Airport is in the Hunsrück and is listed by Boppard’s Tourist Information office as a regional air travel destination. It should not be confused with Frankfurt Airport. The airport information describes bus connections via Koblenz, as well as via Kastellaun and Emmelshausen.
