To Mendenhall Glacier
The Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center is located in Mendenhall Valley, about twelve miles from downtown Juneau. You’ll need a taxi, tour bus, or rental car to get there; plan the transfer as a separate excursion, not as a walk from the pier. Before visiting, check the seasonal opening hours. For summer 2026, visitor information lists daily hours of 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and an admission fee of five U.S. dollars for visitors aged 16 and older. In April and October, the center is open only at certain times. The grounds are accessible year-round from 6 a.m. to midnight.

Extended helicopter glacier trek
Guided glacier tour. Helicopter flight to Mendenhall glacier. A hiking and climbing tour of the glacier lasting about four hours. Total length of the tour about 6 1/4 hours. Please note: previous experience is not necessary. Participants must be in good physical shape and be able to walk about twelve kilometres.
Mendenhall Glacier and salmon breeding station
Visits to the Mendenhall glacier and a salmon farm: from late June to September there is the possibility of observing the salmon spawning, or, from May to early June, to feed the young salmon. The tour lasts 2 3/4 hours.
