Port and Pearl Harbor

Honolulu is both a port of embarkation and disembarkation for Hawaii cruises, as well as a starting point for visits to Oʻahu. There are two cruise terminals at the port for embarkation: Pier 2 at the western end of Channel Street near Ala Moana Boulevard, and Pier 11 at the northern extension of Aloha Tower Drive. The two access roads are in different locations. For onward travel, the port authority lists buses, bike rentals, car sharing, trolleys, rideshare services and taxis as options.

A visit to the Pearl Harbor National Memorial offers a historical focus. The memorial commemorates the attack of December 7, 1941. The visitor areas include the USS Arizona Memorial. Its program has its own reservation and timing requirements.

Visiting and planning your time

The National Park Service recommends making a reservation for programs. The USS Arizona Memorial program runs daily, weather permitting. Reservations are made through Recreation.gov; a nonrefundable fee of one US dollar is charged per ticket. Visitors should arrive at least one hour before the program begins and check in ten minutes before their scheduled time. Standby places may be available, but are not guaranteed.

According to the NPS, the visitor center is open daily from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., except Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day. The first memorial program starts at 8 a.m., and the last boat departs at 3:30 p.m. The visitor center, museums and outdoor grounds are free; the fee applies to the reservation for the memorial program. The Ford Island bus tour requires a separate reservation.

For transfers and shore visits, the relevant terminal access road and the timing requirements of your reserved memorial program are key.
