Potsdam Cruise Port: Lange Brücke and Shore Excursions
Potsdam on the Havel: the passenger landing stage at Lange Brücke, its location relative to the Old Market and main railway station, and the historic center and gardens.
Potsdam Harbor and Passenger Ships
Potsdam’s central departure point for sightseeing cruises is at Lange Brücke. WEISSE FLOTTE is based at Lange Brücke 6, where you’ll also find the departure point for its Havel Lakes cruise. Boats depart from here for trips through the Havel and its surrounding lakes. The Havel Lakes cruise connects Potsdam’s landing stage with waterside destinations such as Caputh, Petzow, Ferch and Werder (Havel). This passenger-boat landing stage is not necessarily where a multi-day river cruise ship docks: for such a trip, use the landing stage specifically named by the tour operator.
From the Landing Stage to the Old Market
The landing stage is on the water, west of Lange Brücke; the Old Market is to the north, while the main railway station is southeast of the landing stage. The boat landing, railway station and historic center are all within a compact central area, but remain clearly distinct places.
Several key sights are clustered around the Old Market: St. Nicholas’ Church, the Potsdam Museum, the Barberini Museum and the Brandenburg state parliament building. The square brings historic architecture together with more recent urban development. From here, a city walk leads along the shopping streets toward the Dutch Quarter, whose small shops, cafés and bars shape the streetscape. Visitors focusing their time on the city center will find a rewarding self-contained walking route, with striking buildings and a rich history.
The Havel, Islands and Parks
Potsdam’s cityscape extends well beyond the Old Market. The Havel lakes and the palaces and gardens of the UNESCO World Heritage Site together define the city’s character. Waterways, islands and shorelines provide a distinctive setting for boat trips, while Babelsberg Park, the New Garden and Sanssouci Park complement the historic center on land. These larger green spaces are destinations in their own right and should not be confused with the landing stage at Lange Brücke. Even on a shorter visit, you can choose between a waterside cruise, a historic square or a garden landscape.
The Havel cruise overview places Potsdam among possible river cruise destinations. An overview of cruises in Germany compares the country’s river and coastal ports, while the port directory lists more places to embark and go ashore.
