Luggage during turnaround: from the terminal to your cabin and back
On a cruise at sea, guests change over during turnaround: one voyage ends and the next begins. For passengers, the process is especially visible when it comes to luggage. On AIDA, dropping off and collecting luggage follow set steps: a luggage tag links each suitcase to its cabin, and on the final evening, checked luggage can be put out for collection ashore. The embarkation overview also explains how travel documents and check-in fit into the start of the voyage.
When embarking: from the terminal to your cabin
AIDA provides luggage tags with the travel documents. Attach the tag to your suitcase where it is clearly visible before you arrive. At the terminal, hand in your tagged luggage; AIDA staff will then transport it to your cabin. This means you don’t have to carry your suitcase along with your hand luggage through check-in and onto the ship. According to AIDA, luggage is usually delivered to cabins by early evening. So plan your first few hours without relying on anything packed in your checked luggage.
Keep travel documents, medication, valuables, and anything you’ll need during the first few hours in your hand luggage. That way, these items will be within easy reach during check-in and while you wait. Also make sure the tag remains visible on the outside of your checked luggage. The information on it allows the luggage to be assigned to your cabin; staff take care of the onward transfer. You can also find details about getting to the ship and checking in in the cruise travel tips.
When disembarking: collection ashore
For departure, AIDA guests can leave their packed luggage outside their cabin door the night before, by 2 a.m. AIDA takes it to the terminal, where it is sorted by deck in the morning and ready for collection. If you prefer to take your suitcase off the ship yourself, you can do that too. This choice affects what you’ll have available in the evening and the next morning: don’t pack documents, medication, valuables, or anything you’ll need during the first few hours in a piece of luggage you hand in before the night.
